Let someone type eight characters instead of a server address. Your app asks us what sits behind the code and gets it back; the person using it never sees an address, and never has to retype anything when the seller moves server.

A code is short, says it out loud cleanly, and fits on a card. No typos in a hostname, no port left off the end.
Nothing to re-issue when a server moves
The seller repoints the code and every device follows on its own. Nobody reinstalls anything and your support queue stays quiet.

A code that has been switched off simply stops working, and your app finds out the moment it next asks.
Single codes and groups behave differently
Your app is told which kind it is holding so it can keep group codes together and explain the difference to the person, rather than refusing a code with no reason given.
Getting access
Access is granted case by case. A key lets an app read the server behind any code its users hold, so we look at each app before issuing one rather than handing keys out from a signup form.
Pricing is based on how many calls your app makes, so it scales with how much you actually use it. We will quote once we understand the sort of volume you expect — tell us what you can, and an estimate is fine.
We ask two things of any app that integrates: never show the server address to the person using it, and honour the difference between a single code and a group. Both are covered properly when we set you up.
